Excel email cleaning

Clean an XLSX email list safely

Upload a single-worksheet XLSX file, select the email column and retain the rest of the workbook data in a reliable cleaning workflow.

Practical ListCleaner guideReviewed October 2026

Excel workbooks are convenient for people but can be ambiguous for automation. Multiple worksheets, formulas, hidden columns and presentation formatting make it unclear which data represents the actual list.

Why one worksheet per upload

ListCleaner accepts XLSX files containing exactly one worksheet. If a workbook contains several sheets, the upload stops with a clear error rather than guessing. Save the worksheet you want to clean as its own workbook and upload that file.

Before uploading

  • Use the first row for column headings.
  • Remove empty title rows above the table.
  • Convert calculated email cells to normal values when practical.
  • Retain IDs and supporting fields needed after cleaning.
  • Confirm the workbook contains only the intended worksheet.

During upload

The preview shows the detected columns and sample rows. Click anywhere in the correct column to select it as the email field. The file size and estimated record count help confirm that the expected data was read before a cleaning job is created.
