Bulk list cleaning

Email list cleaning that produces usable results

Clean CSV, XLSX, TSV and TXT email lists, keep every supporting column and understand exactly why each address received its status.

Practical ListCleaner guideReviewed October 2026

Email list cleaning is the process of finding addresses that are malformed, undeliverable, disposable, inactive or otherwise risky before you use the list. The useful output is not simply a smaller file. It is a dataset that tells you what happened to every record and gives your team enough context to decide what to send, suppress or review.

What ListCleaner checks

Each address moves through a layered workflow. We normalize the input, validate address structure, inspect the domain and mail configuration, compare the address with known classifications and perform mailbox-level verification when earlier checks are inconclusive. The result is expressed as a clear status rather than a vague score.

Invalid addresses

Malformed addresses, domains without working mail records and mailboxes that cannot accept delivery.

Risky addresses

Catch-all domains, temporary inboxes, generic role accounts and outcomes that require your judgment.

Known outcomes

Previously classified bad addresses can be identified internally without repeating avoidable external checks.

Your original data stays useful

Real customer files rarely contain one column. They contain names, campaign references, customer IDs, segments and CRM fields. ListCleaner asks you to select the email column and retains the rest of the row. You can upload CSV, XLSX, TSV and consistently delimited TXT files. XLSX files must contain one worksheet, which prevents an ambiguous upload from silently cleaning the wrong sheet.

What cleaning does—and does not—prove

Verification estimates whether an address can receive mail and identifies operational risk. It does not create consent, prove that a person wants your messages or guarantee inbox placement. Use cleaning alongside lawful collection, clear opt-outs, authentication and sensible sending practices.

A practical workflow

  1. Export a representative list with the columns you need later.
  2. Upload it and select the exact email column.
  3. Review the live progress and the distribution of statuses.
  4. Download all results, a deliverable subset or the non-deliverable records.
  5. Import the appropriate subset and retain your suppression decisions.
